Kids love adventure. Getting out and exploring is a joy for their souls. So, let adventure guide your next workout.
Depending on how old they are you can plan ahead for your trip by packing some snacks, water, a back pack to carry a child in (if needed) or a jogging stroller to push them. In any case, when you get your kids and yourself up and out they get the benefit of a new place to explore and you gain the benefit of a new frame of mind.
Recently my sons and I stayed on a peninsula near Seattle. It was lush with forest and we spent days keeping busy taking hikes, exploring creeks, and bounding through nature. In order to maintain consistent activity I needed to pace myself as my three-year-old tires quicker than his older brother and my pregnant belly slows me down (appropriately so!). But it was wonderful to move up and down trails – getting exercise while seeing and listening to nature. It reminded me that even the most simple alterations to a workout (say, location for instance) can inspire and rejuvenate your mind. Not to mention the critters you might befriend along the way.
