Move of the Month

80/20 Squat

Posted by on Feb 8, 2012 | 0 comments

This month, work this move for improved glutes and quads.  AND for increased calorie burn (these squats include more muscle groups which = more calorie burn).  So, get ready to get toned and feel the burn! 1) Stand with feet hip distance apart 2) Lean into your right foot – placing 80% of your weight on that foot, leaving only 20% on the left. 3) Squat down and back (as if you are trying to sit in a chair) until you have a 90 degree angle at your knees.   Then slowly come back up into a standing position.  Make sure not to take a long time – speed is your friend.  HOWEVER, take your time to do it right – correct form is always #1 on these or any...

Sumo Walk Squats

This move is sure to inspire fabulous glutes, quads, and hams.  It’s easy to do throughout the day holding a baby in your arms and it will bring your preschooler a giggle. (I assure you… right before they try it for themselves). 1) Place feet wider than hip distance apart. 2) Bending at the knee, lower your rump down and back as if trying to sit in a chair just out of reach. 3) Hold positions when you reach 90 degrees at the knee 4) Place hands on thighs (ala a sumo wrestler) 5) Lift your right foot, maintaining the squat (stay down, don’t stand and straighten your legs), and walk a “large” step forward.  Repeat on left side. 6) Walk...

November: At Home Workout DVDs

Posted by on Nov 7, 2011 | 0 comments

As the days get shorter and colder it just adds to the mountain of excuses we all have to not exercise.  So, instead of ignoring the obvious trend to slow down or not move at all, BBAB is giving a strong look at “at home” workout options for this November’s “Move of the Month”. We’ve all tried to workout at home.  Some LOVE it while others do it once and never do it again.  But with this list of DVD and online alternatives to the gym, we encourage you to keep your evolving body headed in the right direction.  (Not to mention, even on days when the kids are under the weather, you can work in a workout between naps!)  In fact, if...

Raking Leaves & Leaf Jumping

Posted by on Oct 1, 2011 | 0 comments

The weather is starting to turn and its getting cold outside, but that doesn’t mean you have to be confined to your home. In fact, you can embrace the season, get some work done, get a workout, and have fun with your kids! Unconventional, yes, but this month’s move of the month will get your heart rate up if you give it your all – raking leaves and leaf jumping. According to the National Institute of Health, raking leaves is a “moderate intensity activity, on par with walking at a brisk, 15 minute mile pace. A 150-pound person can burn about 94 calories in just 20 minutes of raking.” *  Raking also builds upper body strength. It is any easy activity for your...

After School Moves for Kids

Posted by on Sep 1, 2011 | 0 comments

Whether you child is in preschool or elementary school, most kids don’t have the opportunity to burn off their energy while actually at school.  So, ABBAB wants to help you get your kids moving in the right direction – literally – by encouraging you to find good after school activities for kids.  Some things you can do right in your own back yard (like playing chase or jumping rope) but others require outside sources – like a local YMCA – to help get the wiggles out.  In any case, keep those little bodies moving!  They need it to grow. For this article, I was doing research, and, honestly WAHM.com nailed it.  So, instead of trying to...

Stay Cool When You Workout – run, walk, bike, hike, gym

Posted by on Aug 1, 2011 | 0 comments

Currently, for most people in the United States, it’s hot outside.  And for some, it’s hot most of the year.  So, encouraging you to “get out and get moving” can be a little daunting.  One way to beat the heat is to literally beat it.  By that, I mean, get up before the heat is sweltering.  Get outside and run, walk, or bike when your kids are still asleep – say 6 AM.  However, since I am an advocate of taking your kids with you as you workout (so it can be a part of your daily routine) I have found other ways that can help you get up and get motivated.  Hint: it’s not a difference of WHAT you do, but HOW you do it. You can...
