As I considered this month’s chocolate choices I actually started with another bar. It had less cocoa content but I was game to try it out since it seemed a little on the exotic side and had intriguing primative art. However, after biting into it and having it crumble in my mouth (not succulently, let me tell you… think, slivery and a bit chalky) I couldn’t bring myself to write a good review.
So, I went on the search for another bar and I discovered Sweetriot‘s 70% Dark Chocolate. I had never heard of Sweetriot but the story on the back intrigued me and almost insisted I give it a shot:
“everyone has dreams, mine was just an especially crazy one. I wanted to create a company that would change the world!”
I was hooked. So, I gave the 70% a try (over the 85%). It too was a bit more “crumbly” than I like – I prefer a smoother chocolate – however there was no chalkiness and the taste had dimension to it. In short, I enjoyed the flavors this South American chocolate offered up.
So, in honor of good chocolate, great antioxidant levels, and a year where everyone could stand to dream a bit bigger – I have chosen Sweetriot‘s 70% Dark as the 2011 inaugural Chocolate Bar of the Month. Happy New Year mamas! Go out, get a bar, and dream!
