As school looms right around the corner, it’s important to remember preparation is the key to successfully integrating healthy foods into your kids’ diet. One way to help prepare is by gathering things that allow you to use the food you make rather than pre-packaged foods often filled with preservatives, sugars, and other ingredients that weigh a growing and learning body down. Another is by finding recipes for after school snacks that are fun and energizing to your kids’ bodies. So, to help moms out here is a simple list of options that will help you succeed in your desire to incorporate healthy foods into your child’s life (without breaking the bank).
1) Compartmentalized lunch box containers from “Easy Lunch Boxes“. These little, affordable, packable gems are free of BPA, PVC, lead and vinyl. They are also dishwasher AND microwave safe (I have no other plastic food containers that are microwave safe!) And most importantly they allow you to pack healthy food for your kids in portions that make sense for them. Also, I love, LOVE their website. It has tips, helpful hints, recipes, viewer lunch ideas and more. Check them out!
2) A Bento box “Easy A” system from laptop lunches. These dandy compartmentalized mega-lunch boxes come in a variety of designs – for kids or adults. Each container seals so you can keep foods separate from each other if needed. They are also safe – no BPA, PVC, lead or phthalates in these babies. And, they are made in the U.S.A. (Hurray for home-grown merchandise!)
3) Websites that have recipes with healthy kids in mind. Sites like kidshealth.org offer fun, kid-friendly recipes for after school snacks as well as other meals throughout the day. Also, the site recipesforkidschallenge.com gives recipes submitted by readers with kids in mind or by kids themselves. And delish.com has fantastic, health-focused kids’ recipes they claim even picky eaters will love. So, explore, and enjoy new recipes for after school snacks and even dinners!
