As the days get shorter and colder it just adds to the mountain of excuses we all have to not exercise. So, instead of ignoring the obvious trend to slow down or not move at all, BBAB is giving a strong look at “at home” workout options for this November’s “Move of the Month”.
We’ve all tried to workout at home. Some LOVE it while others do it once and never do it again. But with this list of DVD and online alternatives to the gym, we encourage you to keep your evolving body headed in the right direction. (Not to mention, even on days when the kids are under the weather, you can work in a workout between naps!) In fact, if you are game, gather some DVDs in your collection, label them with your name, and start a “swap-workout” library with friends to help keep costs low!
Here are three you can collect to start your workout library. Your husband might even join in the fun (heck, challenge him to an endurance test – who can do a workout without quitting!)
- GAIAM Pilates Beginning Mat Workout – if you’ve wanted to learn more about Pilates but can’t bring yourself (or your schedule) to go to a mat class, this is a great and affordable way to introduce yourself to the basics. Ana Caban eases you into the foundation of Pilates and then takes you into a 20-minute workout which is attainable and energizing. It’s a great way to get you up and moving with minimal time commitment.
- Turbo Jam: I’m not one who enjoys annoying instructors. Ones that are unusually perky and seem to workout with no sense of humanity. Plastic Barbie types. And, even though Chalene Johnson might look the part, she is very relate-able and seems to not only enjoy her workout, but genuinely like people, too. Not to mention, the workouts are not overly fast so you only need to do them a time or two to catch on to the rhythm.
- P90X: Thought by many to kill you after just one workout, this workout series is pretty attainable if you are regularly working out. Yes, it is a definite challenge, but each DVD offers adjustments you can make if you are a beginner or simple trying to figure out how to do the workouts. And, the series offers a huge variety of what to focus on and where to start. Not to mention, the instructor and creator is 53 (fifty-three) years old. So, if he can kick it – so can you mama! No excuses.
